Teaching Area: Piano
Ages/levels accepted: all

I have enjoyed teaching piano for 18 years and have a teaching certification. I design my lessons to suit the individual student and therefore use different courses based on the student. In addition to the typical classical curriculum, I also include music theory, music history, music composition, ear training, and performance opportunities for my students. My students enjoy having incentives, games, a memorizing contest, and an annual recital. In addition to classical study, I also give students the opportunity to study popular, country, folk, musicals, rock, holiday, movie and TV tunes depending on the interests of the student. My teaching philosophy goals are that the student become skilled in playing the piano, gain knowledge of music, and have fun while they learn!

Ages/levels accepted: 5 and up

I really love teaching piano, especially to students who want to learn but may not naturally be in the highest percentiles with regard to note-reading or coordination. I enjoy seeing progress and watching children grow in their love and appreciation for music of all kinds. We are having a Halloween recital this year at which the children can wear their costumes! Generally I use the Alfred method books and tailor the supplemental material to suit the student's interest. Masters degree in music.

Classical and jazz piano
Ages/levels accepted: 6-106

I enjoy teaching students of all ages, and do my best to create a positive learning environment for all of my students. With young beginners, I typically use the Faber series. With intermediate students I focus on appropriate literature with strong emphasis on exercises to improve technique. With advanced students we work on standard literature, music theory, and aural skills, so that by the end of high school the students are prepared to study music at the collegiate level if they so choose. I also work with adults and teach jazz improvisation.

Teaching Areas: Violin, Viola, Beginning cello
Ages/Levels Accepted: 6 - adult, beginner

I began the study of violin at age 7. On a full scholarship to SMU I studied with Dallas SO Concertmaster Leonard Posner. I was accepted to study with Toscanini's former concertmaster Mischa Mischakoff, then concertmaster of the Detroit SO, and graduated from Wayne St. University with a BA in music in 1968. I received my MMEd at the University of Arkansas where I studied with Marx Pales, student of Szigetti. I have taught privately, in university and in public schools since 1970. I use several methods including All for String, Essential Elements and the Suzuki literature. Along with these methods I choose performance literature appropriate for the playing level of each student. I believe in a comfortable and flexible lesson situation in which students are encouraged and can look forward to their lessons. Parents are welcome and encouraged to sit in on the lessons. My goal has always been for the students to learn to play to the best of their abilities and to understand and love music in a way that will enrich their whole lives.
