Candace M Burton

Violin, viola

Ages/Levels Accepted: 6 - adult

I began the study of violin at age 7. On a full scholarship to SMU I studied with Dallas SO Concertmaster Leonard Posner. I was accepted to study with Toscanini's former concertmaster Mischa Mischakoff, then concertmaster of the Detroit SO, and graduated from Wayne St. University with a BA in music in 1968. I received my MMEd at the University of Arkansas where I studied with Marx Pales, student of Szigetti. I have taught privately, in university and in public schools since 1970. I use several methods including All for Strings, Essential Elements and the Suzuki literature. Along with these methods I choose performance literature appropriate for the playing level of each student. I believe in a comfortable and flexible lesson situation in which students are encouraged and can look forward to their lessons. Parents are welcome and encouraged to sit in on the lessons. My goal has always been for the students to learn to play to the best of their abilities and to understand and love music in a way that will enrich their whole lives.
